Aleksi Toiviainen

Toronto, Ontario

Aleksi's interest in human rights started in high school, where he became vocal on youth voting rights, education, poverty, and climate action. These interests have motivated him to volunteer for various community and youth-led groups. In 2021, he helped found the national advocacy group Vote16 Canada, which works to lower the voting age at the municipal, provincial, territorial, and federal levels. As youth advisor and parliamentary research assistant to Senator McPhedran, Aleksi has led research, communications, and strategic initiatives with a particular focus on the voting age and climate action. He continuously seeks innovative ways to engage with young leaders, policymakers, and the broader public to strengthen the collective power of young people in civic life.
